    Description

    1834 Hard Times Token
Here is a copper Hard Times Token minted in 1834 during America's first Great Depression when coinage was scarce. These tokens were privately made and traded as currency until coins became readily available to the public again. The subjects of the tokens included political commentary or merchant advertising. The United States government temporarily allowed the use of Hard Times Tokens as money because the economic situation was so dire.
This is one of the "Running Boar" tokens that were made in 1834.  The obverse has a depiction of a running boar with inscriptions and the reverse features a small bust of Andrew Jackson with inscriptions.  It is a W-10-21a HT9.
This token has been authenticated and graded MS 62 BN or Mint State 62 Brown by NGC.
