Up for sale is this .00 Series 1896 Silver Certificate, Artwork on Canvas, otherwise referred to as a .00 Educational Note.
This canvas Artwork is not just any .00 Educational Note, it is the image from the very first .00 Educational Note that was Printed at the Bureau of Engraving & Printing.
Claude M. Johnson was the head of the BEP in 1896, and had the forethought to purchase the very first sheet of each the .00, .00 & .00 Series 1896 Educational Notes, and saved them for himself.
Years later, these were part of the Harry Bass Jr. Collection.
This group of 3 sheets (12 notes) recently sold at auction for over ,000,000.
This note features the obverse vignette “
Electricity Presenting Light to the World
”, and was engraved by G.F.C. Smillie, from a painting by Walter Shirlaw.
The .00 Series 1896 Educational Note is considered by many to be the “Most Beautiful” United States Banknote that was ever produced!
