Description
This is an original antique menu from the 1913 reunion of the Roosevelt Rough Riders, veterans of the Spanish-American War known formerly as the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry. This menu is from the Plaza Hotel of Las Vegas, New Mexico which was a venue for some of the Rough Rider reunions of the early 20th century. The menu is four pages printed on coated cardstock measuring about 10.5” x 8” with ribbon binding. The front cover features artwork of a Rough Rider on a bucking horse carry the colors of the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry. The menu features Canapes “Teddy”, Punch A La R.R.R. “A Good Stiff One”, “Bombs Parker” which I think is a reference to General John Henry Parker who earned praise from Teddy Roosevelt for commanding a Gatling Gun detachment during the Santiago Campaign of the Spanish-American War, along with other dishes. The top of the menu page is printed with a R.R.R. emblem and the lower right hand corner is printed “The Plaza, Friday, February 14, 1913”.
