Description
Cirque Medrano (Paris) for full history.
The Cirque Medrano
(in Englihs: Circus Medrano) is a F
rench circus
that
originally called
Cirque Fernando
. The title "Cirque Medrano" is now a successful French traveling circus.
From its beginnings in 1873, until the end of Jérôme Medrano’s management in 1962, it was tightly woven in the artistic life of the French capital, not only as a popular place of entertainment, but also for its long association with artists, writers, journalists, and Paris’s literati in general. It has been celebrated in paintings, novels, movies, and even popular songs. Its history is also closely intertwined with the life of its three historic directors: Louis Fernando, Geronimo Medrano, and Jérôme Medrano.
Sometimes referred to as "The Temple of Clowns," it has featured many of the world’s greatest clowns, from Geronimo Medrano to Buster Keaton, and launched the extraordinary career of the Fratellinis. Its last performance under Jérôme Medrano’s reign from 1928 to 1963 was an event attended by the Tout-Paris of the arts, and its demolition in December 1973 caused a massive uproar that eventually led to a legislation protecting Paris’s historic theaters.
I’ve copied a few of the pages to show content. Famous performers include Jean Marais; Jacky Rex; William Moore; John Vree & Co.; Kent Bros.; Les Deux Rhodins; and famous clowns like Billy Beck, Boulicot, Drena, Alex et Rhum, Nino et Charly.
Written in French. 15 double-sided pages printed on photo-slick paper. Though it’s from 1952, the fabulous graphics, ads and fonts are more late 1920s to 1930s -- exquisitely done!
5.24" x 7" program. In excellent crisp, preserved condition with the tiniest bit of edge / age wear (a few light marks on the front). Only one original staple holding it together. The much whiter photos were enhanced to show the content better.
I'm currently selling more vintage paper items, including menus, and will combine shipping.
